Qiblah Restored to Mecca

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:149-153) emphasize the significance of facing the Sacred Masjid (Masjid al-Haram in Mecca) during the Prayers (Salah). Let's break down the key points:

  1. Qiblah Restored to Mecca:

    • [2:149] "Wherever you go, you shall turn your face (during Salah) towards the Sacred Masjid. This is the truth from your Lord."
    • The verse instructs believers to face the Sacred Masjid in Mecca during Salah, indicating that this is a command from God.

  2. Facing the Sacred Masjid:

    • [2:150] "Wherever you go, you shall turn your face (during Salah) towards the Sacred Masjid; wherever you might be, you shall turn your faces (during Salah) towards it."
    • The repetition emphasizes the importance of facing the Sacred Masjid in Mecca during Salah, regardless of one's location.

  3. No Argument Against You:

    • [2:150] "Thus, the people will have no argument against you, except the transgressors among them."
    • By facing the Sacred Masjid, believers remove any argument or criticism against them, except from those who deliberately transgress.

  4. Fear God, Not Transgressors:

    • [2:150] "Do not fear them, and fear Me instead. I will then perfect My blessings upon you, that you may be guided."
    • Believers are encouraged not to fear the transgressors but to fear God. The promise is that by obeying God's command, His blessings will be perfected upon them.

  5. Seek Help Through Steadfastness and Salah:

    • [2:153] "O you who believe, seek help through steadfastness and the Prayers (Salah). GOD is with those who steadfastly persevere."
    • Believers are advised to seek help through steadfastness and Salah. This reinforces the connection between perseverance and the practice of Salah, highlighting that God is with those who persevere.
